The AMWA Indiana-Michigan Chapter Conference 2026 brings medical communicators together for learning, networking, and industry insights.

The meeting kicked off with a continental networking breakfast where attendees were able to check in and chat with their table mates.

The first speaker Karla Passalacqua led a workshop which described the importance of distinguishing between exposure and outcome in an observational study and how these types of studies can only identify associations and not effects.

Kelly Schrank convinced attendees of the utility of checklists for many different purposes and how to create one just for you and your needs.

After a networking boxed lunch, Omonaseigha Talton discussed avoiding the pitfall of attributing race as the sole cause of a racial health disparities. She encouraged attendees (and their coauthors) to dig deeper to identify the mechanism because there is no biological difference between the different races.

Trisha Abhay pointed out the importance of writing clearly and concisely in regulatory writing. It can lead to a smoother and faster regulatory review process.

Sharon Rogers described the characteristics of a good medical writer, what you can do to prepare yourself for a career in the field, and the importance of networking to find a role.
